NEW YORK, NY - After more than a decade, CaRiMi's lead vocalist, Mickael Guirand, continues to lobby fellow bandmates to change the name of the highly popular Haitian musical group to MiCaRi, band members revealed.
"Every time we get together, it's always the same thing. Mickael tries to persuade us to rename the group MiCaRi," founding member Richard Cavé told reporters. "Not a week goes by that he doesn't mention it to us. Some days that's all he ever wants to talk about and we barely get any work done."
Cavé explained that the three founders, Carlo Vieux, Richard Cavé and Mickael Guirand, took the first two letters of their first names and tried several combinations for hours before finally deciding on the name CaRiMi.
While Guirand strongly backed MiCaRi, Vieux and Cavé voted to name the band CaRiMi. To Guirand's chagrin, his favored name was defeated by a simple majority vote.
"I thought that was the end of it," said Cavé. "Man, was I wrong."
Cavé added: "The other day, for instance, he called me in the middle of the night. I thought there was some kind of emergency. Then, he says, 'I just took a survey and everyone really likes the name MiCaRi. I think it's time we make it happen.' I thought to myself, oh no, here we go again."
In spite of repeated warnings that a name change could undo years of hard work building their name recognition, Guirand remains steadfast in making his case. In addition, the group's frontman denied claims that he simply wants the band's name to begin with the first two letters of his own name.
"Not at all," said Guirand rejecting the accusations. "Don't get me wrong: CaRiMi is a very nice name. We've done well with it. But, MiCaRi's going to take us to a whole new level."
